Joe Hill

Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer. AI enablement for production systems.

Portland, Tennessee. Open to remote (US).

Nearly 20 years keeping production systems up, Navy messaging to a hybrid on-prem and Azure SaaS platform where I own uptime. In 2026 I designed how AI may act on infrastructure and was the approval point for the first AI-run projects. Azure, Bicep, SQL Server, Ansible, SOC 2 Type II. Founder of Morning Stack.

Experience

Morning Stack

2026-present

Founder · Portland, TN

  • Founded and run solo a subscription SaaS that searches job openings overnight with real browser automation and delivers three tailored application packages per customer at 7 AM. The customer reviews and submits; nothing auto-applies.
  • Built a nightly multi-agent pipeline across three model providers, with routing tuned by blind benchmarks and QA gates that assume agents make mistakes.
  • Run the business with scheduled AI agents: monitoring, weekly code review, bug fixes, support triage and reporting.
  • Public retail launch August 2026.

B2B SaaS company

2016-present

Systems Administrator (2016), Systems Engineer (2019), Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer (2026) · Remote

  • Own uptime and platform direction for a hybrid on-prem and Azure SaaS platform (Windows, SQL Server, IIS, Redis, RabbitMQ) inside a SOC 2 Type II program. Wrote the department's AI setup standard and run AI tool intake.
  • Designed the company's first controlled lane for an AI agent on infrastructure: credential-bound SSH, a seven-verb gatekeeper, a non-production allowlist, audit log and operator-cleared cooldown. Leadership approved it in about 90 seconds.
  • Plan and approval point for an AI-run patching modernization: 26 days, 129 merged changes, 27 legacy scheduled tasks retired, one schedule across QA, stage, production and DR; 12 months of patch evidence in 31 minutes.
  • Ran the first complete disaster-recovery drill in years through a one-click pipeline: 6h 14m from failover to a verified application against a 24-hour RTO, 100 of 100 tables verified, audit evidence signed off.
  • Technical lead for a production SQL Server hardware migration: replication seeding about 75% faster, cloud subscriber relink in about 7 seconds versus an estimated 16 hours, zero data loss, same-day cutover.
  • Ops-side architect for the Azure landing zone in Bicep: management groups, policy as code, hub-and-spoke networking, GitHub Actions on private runners. Phase one took about 2 months against a 6 to 10 month estimate.

Roche Diagnostics / Genentech

2013-2016

Service Desk and Onsite Support, Subject-Matter Expert, IT Project Analyst · Indianapolis, IN and South San Francisco, CA

  • Service desk and onsite support for 6,000+ users and 170+ applications; subject-matter expert for five enterprise applications across about 20,000 employees in North and Latin America.
  • Rolled out 15,000 iOS devices and migrated 8,000 users to Google Suite.
  • IT Project Analyst on the North America Contact Center Migration (requirements, training, testing, deployment, hypercare), then a year of project work in South San Francisco.
  • Rotational team lead and internal trainer.

U.S. Navy

2008-2011

Information Systems Technician · Norfolk, VA and Sasebo, Japan

  • NREMS Administrator at NCTAMS LANT: ran classified naval messaging for about 1,500 commands and 4,000 customers from the Midwest to the Middle East; 11 direct reports after 12 months.
  • Restored primary messaging service with a 48-hour Atlantic-Pacific replication restore, saving about $50K.
  • USS Essex, forward-deployed: led a team of 8 supporting 3,000 shipboard users and the ship's flight-operations and maintenance systems; redesigned training and raised the advancement rate from 8% to 85%.
  • Letter of Commendation from the commanding Rear Admiral. Held a Top Secret/SCI clearance (expired).
  • 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami relief: 20+ volunteer hours.
